Message for Northside Middle and Northside High Families
Northside Middle and Northside High Families,
We wanted to make you aware of some information circulating on social media that has been taken out of context. Several students have brought to our attention a photo of a list of schools, including Northside Middle School and Northside High School. This is a list of schools that receive “Targeted Assistance” under the Title I federal funding program. This is a list referencing school funding, but some students have seen the word “targeted” and misunderstood this to be making a threat to these schools. This is not the case.
Families, please encourage your students to speak to their parent or guardian or an adult at their school, if they see something concerning online. Please also remind them of the dangers of sharing information online that is untrue or unverified, because this can cause harm, even if it is unintentional. Unfortunately, students encounter things online that they do not understand or are not age appropriate for them. Please discuss this with your student, and remind them that our administrators, counselors, and social workers are here for them at school, if they ever need to talk with someone.
Even though the photo circulating online that references “Targeted Assistance” is not a threat to our school, we are glad students brought this to our attention. Please remind your student that if they ever see or hear of something they believe is a threat to someone’s safety, that they should notify their school administrator and/or law enforcement. You can also report safety concerns through our Speak Up for Safety confidential tip line.
